"The Call" #1
"If today you hear God's voice,
harden not your hearts!" (Psalm 95:8)
In 1990 a popular Christian recording
artist authored a song entitled, "For the Sake of the Call", based on Matthew
4:18-22. The chorus is as follows:
"We will abandon it all for the
sake of the call, No other reason at all but the sake of the call, Wholly
devoted to live and to die, For the sake of the call." (Steven Curtis
Chapman)
Please join
us in this journey of listening to and discerning God's call in your life. For,
as the Lord has told us in Jeremiah 29:11-13:
"I know the plans I have mind for
you, plans for peace, not disaster, reserving a future full of hope for you.
Then when you call to me and come to plead with me, I will listen to you."
Obedience
Noah (please read Genesis 6:12-14,18-20;
and 7:5, 15, 16)
"Noah did everything the Lord
commanded"
After the disobedience in the Garden
of Eden, it was the obedience of one man (Noah) that saved the world from total
destruction. The waters of the flood that purified the world were a precursor
of the 'waters of life that flowed from the pierced side of Jesus' (salvation).
We are told
in Psalm 32:10: "The wicked will have to suffer, but those who trust in the
Lord are protected by His constant love."
Questions:
1)
Can
you remember a time when you felt prompted by the Lord to undertake a task?
2)
Did
you respond in faith and obedience like Noah even when it appeared to make no
sense?
3)
What
lesson(s) did you learn from that act of obedience?
