"The Call # 11"
You Alone Are My God and I Worship
You Lord (Loyalty)
Ruth (Please read Ruth 1:15-22; 2:10-13)
Naomi (Ruth's mother-in-law) said to
Ruth, "Why don't you go back home (her husband had died). Ruth replied,
"Wherever you go, I will go...your people will be my people and your God will
be my God." I recall a popular song from the 60's: "I will follow Him wherever
He may go. There is no ocean so deep, no mountain so high that can keep, keep
my away, away from His love (Jesus)." We are told in Romans 8:39, "Nothing can
separate us from the love of God."
Chiara di Favarone (St. Clare of
Assisi) spoke of God's love, "We become what we love and who we love shapes
what we become. If we love things, we become a thing. If we love nothing, we
become nothing. Imitation is not a literal mimicking of Christ, rather it means
becoming the image of the beloved, an image disclosed through transformation.
This means we are to become vessels of God's compassionate love for others."
Only God knows what/where our choices will take us, but we have assurance from
Psalm 23:3-4, "He guides me in right paths-even if I go through the deepest,
darkness, I will not be afraid, Lord, for You are with me."
Could Ruth have imagined that her
choice to stay with Naomi would lead her to be the great-grandmother of King
David, thus an ancestor of Jesus? (your God will be my God!)--how
prophetic, and she did it all out of
love and loyalty. Great are Your rewards Lord for You, "created a pure heart in
me, O God, and put a new and loyal spirit within me" (Psalm 51:10).
